Spanish Springs is a suburb located North of Sparks on Pyramid Highway. Although Spanish Springs is outside of the Reno/Sparks city limits it is still a reasonable commute with an average time to downtown Reno at about 25 minutes. The area is high desert with many Xero landscaped homes.
Spanish Springs is primarily made up of medium sized (three or four bedroom) to large (four, five or more bedroom) single-family homes and apartment complexes/high-rise apartments. Most of the residential real estate is owner occupied. Spanish Springs is very family-friendly with many opportunities for outdoor activities. Many of the residents own ATVs, motorcycles, or RVs. The largest park in the area is Lazy 5 Regional Park with several outdoor pavilions, and picnic areas. In addition to a large athletic field, volleyball courts and soccer fields, Lazy 5 also has playgrounds, a skateboard park and the Melio Gaspari Water Play Park.
Aside from a few stand alone stores and restaurants, the closest shopping center is in South Spanish Springs at Sparks Galleria and Spanish Springs Crossing. This shopping area includes restaurants and many chain retail stores. Spanish Springs is zoned for Spanish Springs High School, Shaw Middle School and three elementary schools.
