Northwest Reno

Northwest Reno, nevada

Northwest Reno is north of highway 80 and west of I-580/US-395 resting on the northwest foothills above downtown with views of the Truckee Meadows. This area of town is very suburban and family oriented with many planned living communities such as Somersett and Del Webb. It also encompasses the University of Nevada, Reno area and the older Northwest area with its classic historic homes.

Northwest Reno is all about family living and the feel is more mellow than downtown. If you're in the Old University area, you can look forward to affordable living in an older, charming, quaint neighborhood. If you're in the New McQueen part of town (named after McQueen High School), there's ample opportunities for shopping and easy access to anything else you need. There are three elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school - Robert McQueen High School.

There is an abundance of national retail stores, fine dining, fast food, activities for children, and parks. The most notable park in this area is Rancho San Rafael park. The park, the site of a former ranch, encompasses approximately 570 acres of pastureland and natural sage community features. It is home to the May Museum and May Arboretum & Botanical Garden and contains many picnic and recreational facilities as well as a large dog park. The park is the location of the annual Great Balloon Races and other festivals and community events.
